I’m just curious if any other parents who lost a baby due to miscarriage named their baby. We did! Terry and I were always very quick to name our babies when we were pregnant, that way, we could call them by name and speak to them in the womb.
I know it’s not this way for a lot of couples, but naming our children for us was an easy task. Our oldest is our son Nathan, named after the prophet Nathan in 2 Samuel. We love the courage and strength Nathan had when he confronted King David. I told Terry that I was thinking about the name, and just like God, he was too! Done! Grace (or Gracie) is our second child. It took us one walk around the harbor to name her. Then came the miscarriages. Our first miscarriage was lost very early on, so he or she is the only one of our children who is not named. Whoever gets to heaven first gets to pick the name! Our second miscarriage was a boy. We named him Joseph after the strong Josephs in the Bible. Plus, Joseph is my Dad’s middle name. Then, there is baby Angela. We let Gracie name her. She desperately wanted a sister and was heartbroken when we lost her at 10 weeks of pregnancy. And yes, the Angela in Cynthia’s Dance is named after our baby girl!
I take comfort in knowing that Baby Harris, Joseph, and Angela are now being taken care of by their Grandma who joined them in glory 3 years ago. I can’t wait to meet them one day. It will be a magnificent reunion! I love you, babies! – Laura Harris
